Tadej Battelino
Tadej Battelino obtained his MD at the Ljubljana Medical Faculty,
where he also passed his board exam in pediatrics. In 1993 and 1994
he completed clinical fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Loyola
University of Chicago, Illinois, USA. After obtaining his PhD, he
completed a postdoctoral fellowship in 1996 and 1997 at Hôpital Robert
Debré and INSERM U-457, Paris, France. He is currently a tenured professor
of pediatrics at the Ljubljana Medical Faculty, and the head of Department
of pediatric endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the UMC - University
Children’s Hospital Ljubljana, Slovenia. He received numerous publically
funded grants in basic and clinical science. He served on the EASD council
and is co-organizer of seven annual meetings of the ATTD (Advanced Technologies
and Treatment of Diabetes). He serves on the editorial board of the European Journal
of Endocrinology and Pediatric Diabetes, and as reviewer for international journals
and European Research Council grant committees.
His laboratory for molecular genetics and metabolism is equipped for complete DNA,
RNA and protein diagnostics with mass-spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry,
rapid mutation screening equipment with second generation sequencing, and full
access to gene/protein-chip facility.

Iztok Stotl
Iztok Štotl is a medical doctor working in Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at the University
Medical Centre Ljubljana in Slovenia. He works in metabolic intensive care unit specialized for hyperglycaemic crises in
adult patients and also in outpatient diabetes clinic. He is a member of clinical group for bariatric surgery in University
Medical Centre Ljubljana. His main medical fields of interest are: critical limb ischemia in diabetic patients, prediabetes,
prediction and prevention of diabetes, bariatric surgery, obesity and metabolism. He is the author of Slovenian clinical
guidelines for management of patients with high risk for developing diabetes. He is a system administrator of research servers in
his clinic and actively uses open source solutions for conducting clinical research and his clinic.
